MBBS Abroad
How to build a complete MBBS abroad budget
Compare tuition, living costs, travel and programme duration before choosing a medical university abroad.
Get the programme right before adding the fees
A low annual tuition fee is useful only when you know how many years you are paying for and what the course includes. Ask for the exact programme title, duration, internship arrangement and awarding institution for your intake. If any of these are unsettled, keep the budget provisional.
For Kazakhstan’s 2026–27 intake, read the Embassy’s course-duration advisory before relying on a six-year quotation.
Separate the main cost categories
- University tuition and any stated annual revisions
- Hostel, deposits, food or mess plan and holiday-period accommodation
- Visa, residence registration, medical checks and insurance
- Flights, local transport, winter clothing and everyday spending
- Books, equipment, document translation and attestation where required
- Internship, licensing examinations and any later training costs that apply
Compare quotations on the same basis
Ask each provider to label the currency, year, recipient, payment deadline and inclusions. A first-year package can include items that later tuition figures do not. Keep the university’s invoice separate from service charges and travel estimates. Ask what is refundable and obtain the policy in writing.
Use a budget you can update
For each academic year, add confirmed university charges, confirmed living charges and your other expected costs. Convert each foreign-currency amount using a dated exchange rate, then keep a separate contingency chosen by your family. No exchange rate or inflation assumption should be presented as a guaranteed future cost.
If a programme could require an additional year, show that year as an unresolved cost line until the university provides a written schedule. Do not enter zero.
Ask these questions before paying
- Is this the current fee schedule for my exact intake?
- Which charges are paid directly to the university?
- Are room allocation, food, insurance and holidays included?
- Can annual charges change, and how will changes be communicated?
- What happens if admission, visa or programme terms change?
Compare the programme as well as the price
Budget is one part of the decision. Review teaching language, clinical exposure, internship, local licensing and the requirements for returning to India. Start with the MBBS abroad guide and review the NKU programme and quoted fees.
