Nursing abroad: start with your qualification

Explore UAE nursing requirements, professional titles and licensing steps. Understand what your qualification means before choosing an overseas nursing route.

Qualified nurse or starting your nursing education?

If you already hold a nursing qualification, your first task is to identify the professional title you may qualify for. If you are choosing a nursing course, compare the course and the future registration route together. A course admission does not give you permission to practise.

UAE first: choose the right licensing route

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates have different licensing authorities. Start with the emirate where you intend to work, then check the current Professional Qualification Requirements for your title.

Read the UAE nursing guide for a clear introduction to qualifications, verification and licensing.

Prepare for a useful eligibility discussion

  • Your exact qualification: BSc Nursing, diploma or another award
  • Course duration, transcripts and clinical training record
  • Current nursing registration and good standing, where required
  • Work history and any gap in practice
  • Preferred emirate and professional title

Check the title before you pay

Registered Nurse and Assistant Nurse are different titles. A diploma or GNM qualification should not be assumed to meet Registered Nurse requirements. Experience rules also depend on the title and gap-of-practice provisions.

Compare the qualification checks for UAE nursing titles.
