Jobs in the UAE: Check the Offer Before You Move
A safe UAE employment plan begins with a genuine employer and a written offer. The official process links the job offer, employment contract, work permit and work visa, but each stage still requires the responsible authority’s approval.
How the Private-Sector Employment Process Works
The UAE Government portal describes the usual sequence for an expatriate private-sector worker as a formal job offer, employment contract, work permit and then the work visa or residence process.
For an employer-sponsored role, the employer applies for the work permit through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. A person must not begin work without the required permit.
Verify the Job Offer and Contract
- Employer’s legal name and official contact details
- Job title, duties and work location
- Start date, contract type and duration
- Salary, allowances, deductions and benefits
- Working hours, probation, leave and notice terms
- Accommodation, transport, insurance and relocation terms, where offered
MoHRE-approved job offers carry identifying details that can be checked through official services. Keep the offer and ensure the final employment contract matches the agreed terms.
Qualifications and Professional Licences
The education, experience and certification required depend on the role. Some documents may need formal verification or attestation.
Regulated occupations can require approval from a separate professional authority before employment. The responsible regulator depends on the occupation and emirate, so a general jobs page cannot confirm one licensing route for every applicant.
After the Work Permit
The UAE Work Bundle brings together employer-led work-permit and residence steps, including medical examination and fingerprinting for Emirates ID. The exact sequence depends on whether the worker is outside or already inside the UAE and on the permit type.
Before travelling, confirm who is responsible for each step, which documents you must carry and which costs are covered by the employer.
Protect Yourself From an Unsafe Offer
- Verify the employer independently
- Use the official MoHRE offer or contract enquiry service
- Do not rely only on a personal email or messaging account
- Read salary, deductions and benefits before signing
- Keep copies of the offer, contract and permit records
- Do not travel on the assumption that an interview message is permission to work
