BSc Nursing or GNM: check your UAE nursing title
Understand the difference between UAE Registered Nurse and Assistant Nurse qualification requirements before choosing a licensing route.
Begin with the professional title
Registered Nurse and Assistant Nurse are separate titles in the UAE’s unified Professional Qualification Requirements. Your qualification should be checked against the exact title you intend to apply for. A course name used in India does not automatically decide the outcome of a UAE application.
What the April 2025 PQR table lists
For Registered Nurse, the nursing table lists a bachelor’s degree in nursing. For Assistant Nurse, it lists a diploma in nursing of at least 18 months. These entries should be read alongside the general requirements and notes in the full PQR.
Both entries are marked “no experience required”, subject to gap-of-practice criteria. That does not remove the need to meet the other application requirements or an employer’s hiring criteria. Other nursing titles can have different requirements.
If you have BSc Nursing
Prepare the award, transcripts, professional registration and practice history. Check whether your education and registration meet the authority’s current criteria, what primary source verification is required and whether an assessment applies. Do not book an assessment solely because a package advert says you are eligible.
If you have GNM or another diploma
Ask the responsible authority to assess your exact qualification and course duration against the intended title. Do not assume that GNM automatically qualifies you as a Registered Nurse, or that every diploma will receive the same classification. Keep the title confirmed by the authority separate from the job title used in an advertisement.
Questions worth asking before you apply
- Which authority and professional title am I applying to?
- Which PQR entry supports the proposed title?
- Do my registration and practice history meet the applicable requirements?
- Does a gap in practice change my next step?
- Which documents need verification, and which fees are payable to each organisation?
Plan the next stages separately
Licensing assessment, registration, employer recruitment, facility activation and immigration are separate steps. Use the UAE nursing guide to understand how they fit together.
